• Governor Baker extends the closure of schools until May 4, 2020.  Melrose Public Schools will be closed until that date.

• Follow Your Art Community Studios has closed to the general public until March 30th. If you have a child currently enrolled in a class, keep an eye on your inbox as FYAS will be sending a separate email to you with an alternative class plan for the next two weeks. Arts on this Equinox is canceled for March 20-22nd. There’s another equinox six months from now, so we’ll keep you posted as we try to reschedule our celebration. We will contact ticket holders separately.

• Per order of Governor Baker, Melrose Public Schools will remain closed until April 7.

• No gatherings of 25 or more; no in-house dining at restaurants, delivery and take-out only. All stores except grocery and pharmacy must close.

Effective immediately, Mayor Brodeur has closed Melrose City Hall and the Melrose Department of Public Works City Yard to the general public for in-person visits for the next two weeks, and this period may be extended as circumstances warrant. More information regarding how you can still conduct City business remotely will be available shortly, check out what we have so far here.

The School Committee, City Council, and Board of Health will meet as scheduled this week, without in-person public participation. Plans are being developed to facilitate public participation remotely.

All other Boards and Commissions will not meet over the next two week period, at a minimum.

• Melrose Public Schools will close for two weeks beginning March 16 through March 27.

• The Melrose Public Library is closed and will reopen at the earliest on Monday, March 30. All scheduled events will be cancelled through April 17.

• Wakefield Co-operative Bank postpones its Local Professionals Appreciation & Networking event scheduled for March 26 that was being presented in partnership with Wakefield Lynnfield Chamber of Commerce and Melrose Chamber of Commerce. A new date has not been determined.

• Melrose Public Schools will close at 12:00 noon tomorrow (Friday, March 13) in order to facilitate a deep cleaning. There will be no afterschool programs. At this time all school buildings will open on Monday at their normal time and on a regular schedule.

The public will not be allowed to attend events in the Melrose Public Schools. We will stream events such as concerts online.

All student events outside of Melrose, other than sporting events, are suspended through April 17.

• MIAA suspends start of spring sports season until March 30.

• The following City of Melrose sponsored events will be cancelled or rescheduled:

  • Kids Club (March and April)
  • St. Patrick’s Day Lunch at the Milano Center
  • The Chili Chowder Fest
  • The Melrose Trivia Bee
  • The International Welcome Reception
  • The Intergenerational Spring Fling

• Memorial Hall will be closed effective immediately, through April 17. All events scheduled during that period will be cancelled. Anyone with a rental scheduled during that time should contact the Memorial Hall executive director.

• The Milano Senior Center will be closed from Monday, March 16, through Friday, April 17, and all programming, including the Community Dinner will be cancelled. Arrangements are being made for those who currently take part in the lunch program at the center. The senior shuttle will only be available for routine medical appointments and will transport only one person at a time in order to protect the health of those who use it.

• Melrose Alliance Against Violence postpones its Community Coffee House scheduled for Sunday, March 15.

• Melrose Symphony Orchestra cancels its 9th Annual Family Concert & Musical Petting Zoo scheduled for Sunday, April 5.

• Middlesex Concert Band has postponed this weekend’s “Sea to Shining Sea” concert.
A new time will be announced as soon as the situation is under control and things get back to normal.

• Reading NAMI Family Support Group has been suspended during the current public health emergency.
