Enjoyed bowling and soap operas

SOMERVILLE — Claire F. McNeill, 88, of Somerville died Sunday, June 26 at the Woodbriar Health Center in Wilmington, surrounded by her loving family and the wonderful staff at the nursing home who cared for her over the past five years.

Born in Somerville on May 2, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Josephine (Carroll) Fitzgerald.

Mrs. McNeill was raised in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. She was a member of the Mother’s Club at St. Catherine Parish in Somerville. She enjoyed bowling and soap operas.

She was the beloved wife of the late William C. “Red” McNeill Jr. She was the loving mother of Robert J. McNeill and his wife Nancy of Lynnfield; and the late William C. McNeill III and Edward R. McNeill. She was the sister of the late Edward Fitzgerald. She was the adoring grandmother of Ryan McNeill and his wife Jennifer of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; Garrett McNeill and his wife Catherine of Charlestown; David McNeill and William C. McNeill IV, both of Las Vegas. She is also survived by her two great-grandchildren and her daughter-in-law, Ruth McNeill of Las Vegas.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday, June 30 at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Maria Goretti Church, 112 Chestnut St., Lynnfield at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 29 from 4-7 p.m.
