MELROSE — Daniel J. Driscoll, 82, of Melrose, died on Dec. 16.
He was born in Everett on Aug. 18, 1933 and was the son of Timothy and Anna (Moore) Driscoll. Daniel was raised in Malden and graduated from Malden High School in 1951. After high school, he continued his education at Boston College and Bentley. Daniel married the love of his life, the late Dorothy (Marinelli) Driscoll, in 1958. Daniel and Dorothy spent 49 years happily married. They settled down in Melrose in 1962 to raise their family and remained there for the rest for their lives.
Daniel worked as an accountant for GCA Manufacturing for 20 years and for the General Ship for another 20 years. He also worked in the retirement office for the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department. Daniel was very active in the community; he was a Grand Knight at the Melrose Knights of Columbus, volunteered as a coach for Melrose Youth Hockey and also served on the board for the youth hockey league.
Daniel was a longtime member of the YMCA as well as the Melrose Bowling League. He was an excellent golfer and enjoyed playing many of the courses in the area. Daniel loved his trips to Boca Raton, Fla. as well as the Florida Keys, and he would always be sure to go fishing while he was down there. Most of all, Daniel loved his family, he attended as many of his grandchildren’s events as he could.
Daniel was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy A. (Marinelli) Driscoll. He was the loving father of Pamela J. Avallone and her husband Daniel of Salem, N.H., Daniel C. Driscoll and his wife Melissa of North Reading and Stephen D. Driscoll and his wife Cynthia of Boynton Beach, Fla. He was the cherished grandfather of Brianna, Shane, Michael, Patrick, Erica and Shauna. He was the proud great-grandfather of Mason. He was the caring brother of Jack Driscoll of New Hampshire, Carol Brennan of Malden, Maureen Gasparello of West Dennis and Jane McCarthy of West Yarmouth. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Sunday, Dec. 20 at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose. Daniel’s funeral was held at the Gately Funeral Home on Monday, Dec. 21, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at the Incarnation Church in Melrose.
