Devoted family man who loved music

NORTH READING — Daniel James Slack of North Reading, a retired machinist passed away after a long illness at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington on Sunday, February 7, 2016. He was just 62 years old.
Dan was born and raised in Woburn and graduated from Woburn High School in 1971. Daniel had many passions and interests. He loved music and was part of a very musically inclined family, including his grandmother who was a concert pianist and grandfather who was a timpanist. Dan studied accordion, piano, violin, and guitar. He performed in cover bands around Boston throughout the 1970’s. He had a wide range of musical interests including Jazz, Blues, and Classic Rock.
Dan had a number of interests outside of music. He was a devoted husband, son, father, brother, uncle, friend and especially grandfather. He had been married to his wife Debbie for 41 years. He coached baseball for his sons and enjoyed playing men’s league hockey for many years. He also enjoyed camping, golfing, scuba diving and days spent at Stage Fort Park in Gloucester.
Dan was the beloved husband of Debra A. (Chuisa) Slack. He was the loving father of Lisa Sampson and her husband Mark of Salem, Daniel and his wife Sarah of Newmarket, NH and Stephen of North Reading. He was the son of Barbara (McNeil) Slack of Woburn and the late Roger. He was the brother of Paul Slack and his wife Carolyn of Woburn and Robert Slack and his wife Michelle of Pepperell. Dan was the proud grandfather of Noelle, Carleigh, Tucker, Beau, Oscar and Landon Slack.
A visitation was held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Saturday, Feb. 13, concluding with funeral services at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers memorials in Dan’s name may be made to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio St., Suite 304, Chicago, IL 60611-3201.
