MHS graduate had artistic leanings

WOBURN – Denise C. (Newell) Silvia, 53, passed away peacefully on Sept. 26 after a 20-year battle with autoimmune diseases.

Denise was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School in 1979. Throughout her life, she enjoyed various artistic endeavors, including making stained glass figures. Denise was especially proud of her two children, fostering their growth and celebrating their many successes.

Denise leaves her husband, Frank Silvia, of Woburn. She was the beloved mother of Haley Silvia and Parker Silvia, both of Woburn. She was the daughter of David and Carol (Thoms) Newell, both of Melrose. She was the sister of Jeff Newell and his wife Sue of Auburn, N.H., Lori (Newell) Hopper and her husband Chris of Olympia, Wash., Janice (Newell) Bissex and her husband Donald of Melrose and Diane Newell and her partner Nancy of Beaverton, Ore. Denise was the loving aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends gathered in honor of Denise at Trinity Church in Woburn for her funeral service on Monday, Sept. 29.
