Kotsakis-obit-webMELROSE — Despin (Angelopoulos) Kotsakis, 88, of Melrose, died at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers on May 20.

Despin was born and raised in Melrose, was a lifelong Melrose resident and attended Melrose schools. She worked for many years at Peter’s Market in Melrose and enjoyed shopping, gardening, needlepoint, cooking, arts and crafts, gold leafing, refinishing furniture, loved cats and was a collector of dolls.

Despin was an active member of Taxieahki Greek Church and the Philloptohos Society in Laconia, N.H. for many years.

She loved to travel with her late husband many times to Greece, Hawaii, Bermuda and spending time at their cottage on Sawyer Lake in Gilmanton, N.H.

Despin was the beloved wife of the late George Kotsakis. She was the loving mother of Stephen Kotsakis and his wife Patrice of Lynn, Peter G. Kotsakis and Joanne Kotsakis, both of Melrose. She was the cherished grandmother of Christopher and Jonathan. She was the great-grandmother of Troy, Nicholas and Eleni. She was the caring sister of Christine Kantaros of Saugus and Paul Angelopoulos of Melrose. She was the sister-in-law of Bessie Kotsakis of Jamaica Plain. She is also survived by a niece and nephew.

Visitation was held at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church, 54 South Common St., Lynn on Tuesday, May 26, from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m.

Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
