Phyllis-Moore-obit-webPALM BAY, Fla. — Phyllis K. (Sheppard) Moore, 85, of Palm Bay, Fla., and formerly of Melrose and Malden, passed away on March 26, in Melbourne, Fla.

Phyllis was born in Chelsea, one of nine children of the late Frederick and Mabel (Rholand) Sheppard. She was raised in Chelsea and graduated from Chelsea High School with the Class of 1947. Phyllis worked for John Hancock Life Insurance as an executive secretary in Boston for 40 years. After her working career, she and her husband Rod moved to Palm Bay, Fla. to enjoy retirement.

Phyllis did her best to enjoy life. She was sociable, loved dancing and playing the slots. She met her husband Rod while out dancing and they enjoyed 30 years of marriage. She found joy going out to eat and loved traveling or cruising. She took many trips to Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec and Vancouver. She also enjoyed vacations to Bermuda as a young woman, and later cruises with her husband Rod to the Caribbean. Other trips included time spent in Mexico, California, Arizona and England with Rod and brother Buddy. Her other interests included a love for needlepoint, crochet, reading and happy hour. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.

Phyllis was the beloved wife of the late Rodney St. Claire Moore with whom she shared 30 years of marriage. She was the loving aunt of Florence M. Keefe of Woburn, Joyce K. Groves and her husband Kenneth of Indian Trail, NC. and Kathleen V. Santos and her husband Stephen of North Berwick, Maine. She was the dear sister of the late Florence Sheppard, Marguerite Espinola, Gladys Keefe, Frederick “Buddy” Sheppard Jr., Edna Sheppard, Harris Sheppard, Elise Sheppard and Barbara Sheppard. She is also survived by three grand nephews, a great-grand niece, and three great-grand nephews.

Relatives and friends gathered Thursday, May 28, in honor and remembrance of Phyllis at Trinity Church, 131 West Emerson St., Melrose during visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a Memorial Service in her honor at 11 a.m.

Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
