Resident of town for over 70 years
NORTH READING — Dorothy M. (Barry) Gallant, 85, of North Reading and formerly of Somerville, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015 at Winchester Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur E. Gallant.
Born in Somerville on Aug. 12, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Laura (Clarke) Barry. She attended Reading High School. Dorothy was the owner of Gallant Electric Motor Service in North Reading since 1965 and was a resident for over 70 years.
Dorothy had a big heart, she was a very compassionate person. She always saw the good in people. She had a smile for all who passed by her. She taught us to always stay young at heart and to never let the child inside us escape. We will always remember her smiling eyes.
Dorothy was a fantastic artist, an avid reader and loved gardening with her daughter. She especially loved board game nights with her children and grandson. Her grandson Michael was one of her greatest joys. She was an avid Red Sox fan and she loved Christmas and collected Santas.
Dorothy was the loving mother of Michael B. Gallant of Hollywood, Fla., Dawn M. Gallant–George and her husband Larry George, Mark B. Gallant and Steven A. Gallant, all of North Reading; sisters, Janet M. Burnett and her late husband Paul of Lowell, Judy A. Bevilacqua and her husband David of North Reading, Sandra Guilfoyle and her husband Cliff of Derry, N.H. and the late Bette A. Moreau and her late husband Eugene R. Moreau; her cherished grandson, Michael C. Gallant of North Reading and Stoneham and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private. Family and friends were invited to a celebration of Dorothy’s life at Kitty’s Restaurant in North Reading on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
