LYNNFIELD — The cross country teams gave a valiant effort but were unable to slow down two talented Pentucket teams Oct. 19.

“We lost to two very good teams,” said Pioneers’ head coach Joe DiBiase.

The boys’ team (0-9) fell 15-50 to Pentucket.

Captain Ryan Iapicca finished eighth during the meet (16:50). Junior Zach Shone was 14th overall (17:40). Senior captain Mike Federico finished 18th (18:10). Sophomore Steven Dwyer set a personal best after finishing 22nd (18:32).

“The boys lost to a great Pentucket team,” said DiBiase. “They look to compete with the best in Eastern Massachusetts at this point. They are a deep, large team and are very talented.”

Girls’ results

The girls’ team (2-7) fell 15-45 to Pentucket.

Sophomore Annie Olsen finished sixth during the meet (20:37). Captain Eliza Brooks was seventh (21:00). Freshman Elizabeth St. Andre finished ninth (21:40). Senior captain Ellen Welter was 13th (22:15). Christina Kinsleih finished 14th overall and set a personal best time (22:38).

Senior captain Christina Irrera did not compete in the meet due to injury.
