Attorney, bibliophile who served 34 years as library trustee

LYNNFIELD — E. Seavey Bowdoin, 96, of Lynnfield, died on July 5, 2016.
He grew up in Kennebunk, Maine and graduated from Bowdoin College in 1942. He remained a fierce member of the College Old Guard until his passing.
Seavey was an active member of the Massachusetts Bar Association since 1949, and practiced law into his 90s. He was a long time resident of Lynnfield where he served on the Board of Trustees for the Lynnfield Public Library for 34 years while also being a long standing and very active member of the Centre Congregational Church.
Seavey loved his family, books, art, film, music, golf and a good Scotch now and then.
He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley (Widdowson) Bowdoin. He was the devoted father of E. Seavey Bowdoin Jr., Ann Bowdoin and Sally Bowdoin and her husband John Arruda. He was the cherished grandfather of Jennifer Bowdoin and E. Seavey Bowdoin III.
He was the dear brother of David Bowdoin, Richard Bowdoin, Ann Greenly and John Bowdoin. Seavey was the loving son of Charles Bowdoin and Jenny (Burnham) Bowdoin.
A reception with light refreshments will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service (“Celebration of Life”) from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Centre Congregational Church, 5 Summer Street, Lynnfield, on Thursday, July 14.
The family plans to have a private burial ceremony in Kennebunk, Maine later in the summer.
