ObitCoakley-webWAKEFIELD — E. Thelma Coakley, 98, of Wakefield died Thursday, Aug. 27, at the Winchester Hospital.

Born in Boston on Oct. 6, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Alfred F. and Adelaide A. (Griffin) Barnard.

Mrs. Coakley was raised and educated in Woburn. She had been a Wakefield resident for over 50 years and was a member of St. Joseph Parish. She enjoyed spending time at the Wakefield Senior Center where she could often be found quilting, which was one of her favorite activities.

Mrs. Coakley was the wife of the late Laurence C. Coakley. She was the loving mother of Laurence F. Coakley and his wife Bonnie of Tonopah, Ariz., Gail Coughtry and her husband Bill of St. Cloud, Fla. and the late Robert Coakley, Carol Malonson, Richard Coakley and Stephen Coakley. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
