WAKEFIELD — Evelyn L. Garneau, 91, of Wakefield died Thursday, Aug. 27, at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Evelyn was born in Methuen on July 5, 1924 and was the beloved daughter of the late Frank and Eva (Wedge) Garneau. She was raised in Dorchester and was a graduate of Saint Margaret High School in 1943.

She was a longtime Wakefield resident and member of Saint Joseph Parish. Evelyn worked for many years as a comptometer operator at several firms during her career including, United Fruit Company, Choate, Hall and Stuart Law Offices and Cris-Pac, Inc. of Wakefield.

Evelyn enjoyed overseas travel, auto trips with her sister Frances and shopping at toy auctions for their charity yard sale. She was a longtime volunteer at the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry and at the Woodbriar of Wilmington Nursing Home.

She was the sister of Edward Garneau of Whitman. She is predeceased by her sister Frances Boudreau and her brother Oliver Garneau. She is also survived by her 12 nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, on Wednesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in Saint Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
