Kupiecobit-webWAKEFIELD — Edward J. Kupiec, 92, of Wakefield died Thursday, June 15, at his residence.

Born in Wakefield on January 10, 1925, he was the son of the late Joseph and Frances (Krzewicka) Kupiec.

Mr. Kupiec was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1942, and was also a graduate of Tufts University, Class of 1946. He was an officer in the United States Navy and proudly served his country during World War II. The ship he served on, the USS
Vicksburg,
was one of the first ships to enter Toyko Bay after the Japanese surrender.

Until his passing, Mr. Kupiec was the oldest living past president of the West Side Social Club, where he thoroughly enjoyed his time spent at the club especially playing cards. He was also a member of the Wakefield Elks.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia.

Mr. Kupiec was also an excellent gardener and had a locally famous tomato garden.

He was the brother of the late George Kupiec and Alice Conley. He was the uncle of Dan Conley and his wife Marcia of CA, Jane Harrison and her husband Bruce of Wakefield, Mark Conley and his Trudy of Wakefield, and Michele Fossey and her husband Michael of Billerica. He was the great uncle of Colin, Taylor, Devin, Christopher, Katie, Jessica, and Matthew. He was predeceased by his longtime companion, Jeanne Karpinski.

His funeral service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday at 12 noon. Visitation for relatives and friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
