Active member of Union Congregational Church for 40 years

FORT MYERS, FL — Eilene A. (Jack) Fichera – 91, of Ft. Myers, FL, formerly of North Reading, died on October 31.

Born on November 24, 1923 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Pauline (MacLeod) Jack and the wife of Al Fichera. She graduated from Newton North High School, worked as a pre–school teacher, was a foster mother and retired as a payroll representative from BASF in Bedford. She was an active member of the Union Congregational Church in North Reading for over 40 years and served many organizations including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Head Injury Association, NICU unit at Lee Memorial Hospital and Condominium Associations. Eilene most treasured time with family and friends. In addition to her volunteer activities, she enjoyed dancing, theatre, genealogy, traveling, and socializing.

She was preceded in death by her son Robert Batchelder. Survivors include her children from her former marriage to Arthur Batchelder: Jerry Batchelder, Deborah Batchelder, and Donna Bucchio. She is also survived by her grandchildren Michelle Canfield and May Low, six great–grandchildren, her sister Juanita Blaney along with many nieces and nephews. Her stepchildren include: Connie Cox, Bud Fichera, Jerry Fichera, and Angela Hernandez along with many step–grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are welcome at the memorial service at the Union Congregational Church, 148 Haverhill Street, North Reading, on Monday, November 16 at 10 a.m. with a reception following in the Church Hall.

Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the charity of one’s choice.
