Veteran founded well-known local construction company
WAKEFIELD — F. Harold Meuse, 85, of Wakefield died Monday, Feb. 23, at the E.N. Rogers Veterans Administration Hospital in Bedford.
Mr. Meuse was born in Wakefield on July 25, 1929 and was the son of the late Augustus and Anna (Muise) Meuse. He was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1948, and later served in Korea and was a member of the U.S. Army, First Cavalry Division and served from 1948-1952.
In the 1960s he founded Atlantic Construction Company in Wakefield with Brendan “Sluggo” Hildreth and operated the well-known company for many years before his retirement. He was also a member of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Greenwood.
Mr. Meuse was the beloved husband of Elizabeth “Betty” Meuse with whom he enjoyed a love filled life for 60 years. He was the loving father of Joseph H. Meuse and wife Jeanne of Saugus, Ronald P. Meuse of California, Cindy L. McSweeney and husband Kevin of Boxborough and Janet M. Bloom and husband Bill of Wakefield. He was the brother of the late Leo and Joseph Meuse, Jeanette Muise, Virginia Ceaser and Mary Abbene. He is also survived by his dearly loved grandchildren, Amy, John, James, Joey, Billy, Shannon and Scott who will hold him closely in their hearts.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 10:30 a.m.
Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
