FIRE LT. JEFF FIORENTINO
New Board of Health member
By DAN TOMASELLO
LYNNFIELD — A Lynnfield Fire Department lieutenant is the newest member of the Board of Health.
The Select Board unanimously voted to appoint Lynnfield Fire Lt./Fire Prevention Officer Jeff Fiorentino to the Board of Health during a recent meeting. He succeeds former Board of Health member Dr. Kelly Migliero.
Fiorentino said he recently discussed being appointed to the Board of Health with Health Director Coral Hope.
“I kind of tripped over this by surprise,” said Fiorentino. “In my previous life, I was a licensed septic system installer. We put hundreds of installations in the ground in Lynnfield, North Reading, Middleton and the surrounding area. Coral approached me and asked if I had any interest in serving on the board. She was looking for someone with a septic system background. I have done some work with her in the past, and I know her well. It just happened to come at a time when I was looking to get a little more involved. When I came across this, I thought I would be a good fit. I would love to help out and do something productive.”
Fiorentino stated in a letter sent to Town Administrator Rob Dolan and Assistant Town Administrator Bob Curtin that his company installed the septic systems at Huckleberry Hill School and Summer Street School during both renovation projects in the early 2000s.
“That experience, coupled with my work as the town fire inspector and a paramedic background, may be a good fit for this position,” Fiorentino stated in the letter. “I would be more than happy to assist the board in any manner.”
Select Board Chair Dick Dalton thanked Fiorentino for volunteering to serve on the Board of Health.
“Jeff is a lieutenant with the Lynnfield Fire Department,” said Dalton. “He is very well-known in the community and is part of the Fire Department’s leadership team. The idea of having someone with a septic system background on the Board of Health is incredibly important because our Health Department spends most of its time on septic system issues. I think Jeff will make a great addition to the board.”
Select Board member Phil Crawford agreed.
“I appreciate Jeff for coming forward,” said Crawford. “We need someone with septic system expertise on the Board of Health. I think you would be a great fit.”
Select Board member Alexis Leahy also thanked Fiorentino for volunteering to serve on the Board of Health.
After the discussion, the Select Board unanimously voted to appoint Fiorentino to the Board of Health. Fiorentino’s term will expire on June 30, 2027.
“Congratulations Jeff,” said Dalton. “Thank you.”
Fiorentino thanked the Select Board for appointing him to the Board of Health.
Dalton thanked former Board of Health member Dr. Kelly Migliero for her service. She agreed to continue serving until the Select Board appointed her successor.
“Kelly served on the Board of Health for the last several years and served during the pandemic,” said Dalton. “She was kind of enough to make time to be a real contributor as we were faced with making a lot of difficult decisions back then. I wish Kelly the very best. She is a very talented surgeon and a wonderful member of this community.”
Comcast pact OK’d
The Select Board unanimously approved Lynnfield Media Studios’ new 10-year cable television license agreement with Comcast of Massachusetts.
“Town Counsel Tom Mullen and Lynnfield Media Studios Executive Director Eric Hamlin have negotiated a license renewal agreement, the chief feature of which is a slight increase in the percentage of its annual subscription revenue which will be paid to the town,” said Dalton.
Hamlin said Lynnfield Media Studios’ 10-year contract with Comcast of Massachusetts recently expired.
“They sign 10-year contracts,” said Hamlin. “It is the same contract, but we are getting to increase our percentage of gross revenue that they give us from 4.25 percent to 5 percent. We are getting a little bit more money.”
There were no residents who spoke during a public hearing on Lynnfield Media Studios’ 10-year license renewal agreement with Comcast of Massachusetts.
Order of taking
The Select Board unanimously approved an order of taking for Sagamore Place.
Dalton recalled that the Select Board “laid out Sagamore Place as a public way this spring.” Spring Town Meeting voted to accept Sagamore Place as a new public way in a 132-19 vote last April.
“This is the final step in the process by which the town will take ownership of the roadway and assume responsibility for maintenance and snow removal,” said Dalton.
