Devoted to family
MELROSE — Florence (Mercer) Taylor, 102, of Melrose and Malden, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 1.
Florence was born in Chelsea, one of four children of the late Adam and Janet (Smith) Mercer. Raised and educated in Revere, Florence worked at John Hancock before settling with her family in Malden.
A family woman, Florence was a faithful wife, dedicated mother, loving sister and caring aunt. She looked forward to gathering with her siblings and their spouses for a game of cards, and found great joy in spending time with her family whether at home in Malden, Big Island Pond in New Hampshire during the summer, or several vacations to Florida during the winter.
A Malden resident most of her life, Florence enjoyed her later years at the Cochrane House in Melrose. She was a frequent visitor to the Saugus Senior Center for dances, or her favorite game, bingo. Florence was a lifelong member of the Glendale United Methodist Church in Everett. Above all else, Florence was happiest when enjoying the company of her loving family.
Florence was the beloved wife of the late Warren T. Taylor, with whom she shared 37 years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Janet E. Taylor of Lexington. She was the dear sister of the late Gladys Hoag and her husband Roderick, Dorothy Voss and her husband William, and Melvin Mercer and his wife Kay. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends gathered in honor of Florence’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and again on Friday morning where her funeral service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
