NORTH READING — The Cape Ann League volleyball coaches met recently to discuss the all–star team. One North Reading player made the Cape Ann League first team while one made the CAL second team.

Jenna Forcellese made the first team for the first time in her career. The junior libero led the team in digs and had the team’s highest passing rating.

“She was the foundation of our defense,” stated Hornets head coach Mike Milone.

Fellow junior Abby D’Orlando, was named to the second team. The setter made the team for the first time as well and she led the team in assists with 207 and she also led the squad in service aces.

“I was happy to have two players named to the team,” said Milone, who just finished six sixth year at the helm.

North Reading finished the year at 7–12 overall. They ended up tied for fourth place with Ipswich in the CAL with a league mark of 5–7.

The Hornets will lose two seniors to graduation, Nicole Shedd and Erica Beherrell. Those two players were the co–captains along with D’Orlando.

Shedd was second on the team in service aces, kills and digs.

“She was a consistent passer,” said Milone.

Beherrell played for the Hornets the past three years.

“She is very athletic,” said Milone.

The good news for the Hornets is that they are slated to return 11 veterans and all of them will be seniors next year.

“We will have experience on defense and with our setters next year,” said Milone. “Hopefully, we will pass the ball better next year as well.”
