USMC veteran of WWII, worked in town hall for many years

 

McNeil-Obit-webNORTH READING — Frances C. (Le Brun) McNeil, 90, of North Reading, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. She was the beloved wife of the late Stuart E. McNeil.

Born in Baltimore, Md. on May 14, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Frank W. and Thelma V. (Anderson) Le Brun. She was raised and attended school in Stoneham and was a graduate of Stoneham High School, Class of 1942. Frances was a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and was discharged as a corporal in 1946.

She worked for many years in the Tax Collector’s Office, for the Town of North Reading. She had been a resident of North Reading since 1950.

After her retirement, Frances enjoyed reading and watching golf. She loved traveling with her sister, Jeanne to Scandinavian countries, Portugal and England. She also enjoyed visiting her good friend Evelyn Holden in Maine.

Family members include her loving son Stuart C. McNeil and his wife Charlene Gagnon; her cherished grandson, Ewan L. McNeil and his wife Jessica (Magnan) McNeil, all of Andover; her sister, Jeanne Clifford of Falmouth and her late brother, Frank W. Le Brun.

Her funeral service will be held at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow St., North Reading on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 10 from 3 to 6 p,m.
