Owner of Carr’s Hallmark for 51 years

 

Carr-obit-webNORTH READING — Gloria M. (Mazzotti) Carr, 88, of North Reading and formerly of Roxbury, died Thursday evening, Dec. 4, 2014, at Kindred Hospital in Peabody. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward F. Carr.

Born in Boston on July 15, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Urbano and Luigia (Monticone) Mazzotti. Gloria was a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School, Class of 1943 and she also attended Bentley School of Accounting in Boston.

Gloria worked for many years as a bookkeeper. She worked for Bay State Auto Spring in Roxbury, Bart Tribuna and Company in Boston and she was an owner of Carr’s Hallmark in North Reading from 1963 to 2014. She has been a resident of North Reading for the past 59 years and during that time she was a member of St. Theresa Church and she belonged to the prayer group.

She opened her business in 1963 with her husband, who built their first store, brick by brick on weekends, for years before opening. Her store wasn’t just a job, it was her life. She loved all the customers, who became friends and would stop by just to talk.

Gloria loved to read mystery books after she retired. She loved her religion and she loved to pray, especially for others. Anyone who needed a prayer, healing or special intention could depend on her. People would drop by or phone in for special prayers, which she would place in a special note book.

Family members include her loving daughters, Mary Ellen Carr and Karen Carr; her loving sister, Hope Rabasco and her husband Alexander, all of North Reading. She is also survived by nine nieces and nephews and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

Her funeral will be held from the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow St., North Reading on Monday, Dec. 15 at 8:45 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Theresa Church, 63 Winter St. (Rt. 62), North Reading. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Dec. 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in North Reading.
