Served in U.S. Navy during Vietnam War

 

MALDEN —Francis X. “Frank” O’Connor, 70, of Malden, passed away on May 8.

Frank was born on March 24, 1945 to John and Ellen (Shepherd) in Somerville. He was raised in Somerville and attended Somerville schools. After graduating from high school, Frank enlisted in the United States Navy. He served honorably for four years during the Vietnam War. After the war, Frank continued his education by earning an associate’s degree from North Shore Community College. He went on to work as an electronic technician for several companies, and finally retiring after working for CPI. Frank loved the Boston Red Sox and he even traveled all the way to Colorado to see them win the World Series in 2007. Frank will be missed by all who knew him. He loved his family more than anything.

Frank was the loving husband of Cheryl (Moran) O’Connor of Malden. He was the dedicated father of Shannon B. O’Connor of Malden; John M. O’Connor and his wife Amy of Middleton; Kathleen R. O’Connor of Malden; and Timothy P. O’Connor of Malden. He was the proud grandfather of Rowan. He  was the brother of Sister Gerard Marie (Mary O’Connor) of Connecticut; Margaret Leary of Holbrook; Kathy Bradley of Colorado; Timothy O’Connor of New York; Ellen Regan of South Easton; Thomas O’Connor of Colorado; and the late Sean O’Connor, Jerome O’Connor and Patricia O’Connor. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday, May 14. A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home on Friday, May 15 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
