MELROSE — Eastern Bank located at 441 Main St., Melrose, has set up an account in the name of Carol Ferreira a/k/a “The Ferreira Family Fund” to benefit both Carol Ferreira and her 81-year-old mother Bernadette Ferreira, victims of a brutal attack which took place over the course of several hours earlier this month.

Donations can be made at any bank branch of Eastern Bank or mailed to the 441 Main St., Melrose address.

The victims, Carol and Bernadette Ferreira were hospitalized due to the injuries suffered during the attack and are in need of continued medical treatment.

An employee of the City of Melrose, Carol is a beloved crossing guard for the children of St. Mary’s School. No matter how big the raindrop, how deep the snow, or how hot or how cold it may be, Carol is a constant, ready to guide both children and adults safely from curb to curb. She slows down the traffic when puddles near the sidewalks grow too large and is at the ready to hand a treat to even the dogs as they pass by with their owners. Those arriving by car with physical handicaps in need of a closer spot to the school are oftentimes greeted with a reserved spot right in front if Carol can help it – and she usually makes that happen. A true gem to the school and to the community.

Carol’s injuries were severe, and will require further medical treatment.

Any assistance to this fund will be appreciated.
