MELROSE — It won’t be much longer now.

Following is some important back to school information.

The first day of school for Melrose Public School children entering kindergarten through grade 12 is Wednesday, August 30. Melrose Public Schools are closed on Friday, September 1, and Monday, September 4, in observance of Labor Day. School will resume on Tuesday, September 5 at its normal time.

School hours

Elementary (grades kindergarten to 5): The school day begins at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 2:22 p.m. 

On WEDNESDAY, August 30 (only):

• All students in grades 1-5 will meet their teachers at 8:05 a.m.in the designated area. They will line up by class and enter the building at 8:10 a.m.

• Kindergarten students will meet their teachers at 8:30 a.m. in the designated area. They will line up by class and enter the building at 8:40 a.m.

• The purpose of the later start time for kindergartners is to help ease the transition on the first day of school for our youngest students.

On THURSDAY, August 31: Teachers will meet all K-5 students in the designated area at 8:05 a.m. and enter the building at 8:10 a.m. The school day ends at 2:22 p.m.

After School Programming – Education Stations (grades K-5)

• The first day of Education Stations, the Melrose Public Schools after school enrichment program is Wednesday, August 30.

• The program will not operate on Friday, September 1, or on Monday, September 4, as schools are closed in observance of Labor Day.

• The deadline for securing placement and the early discount rate is August 1.

• Pre-registration is required, and information/registration links can be found on the Education Stations Information Page – https://melroseschools.com/families/education-stations

Middle School (grades 6-8): The school day begins at 7:45 a.m. and ends at 2:11 p.m.

On WEDNESDAY, August 30 (only):

• All students in grade 6 should report to the auditorium.

• All students in grade 7 and 8 should report to their homerooms for extended homeroom.

• Homeroom, team assignments and schedules will be mailed home over the summer.

High School (grades 9-12)

Grade 9 and New Student Orientation

TUESDAY, August 22, 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon

Location:  Melrose High School

All incoming 9th graders and students new to MHS are expected to attend.  The program will be led by the MHS Administration and student leaders.  Students will have the opportunity to tour the building and familiarize themselves with the expectations of MHS.   Attendance at New Student Orientation is essential to the success of incoming students.

Grades 9-12

WEDNESDAY, August 30th: All students should report by 7:45 a.m. The school day ends at 2:11 p.m.

Early Childhood Center at the Franklin School

First day of school

• TUESDAY, September 5: All 3, 4 & 5 day programs begin

• THURSDAY, September 7: All 2 day programs begin

Before school care will not be offered on Tuesday, September 5. The first day of school is a great day to meet your Franklin friends for a photo opportunity.
