The Galvin Middle School’s Science Olympiad Club is coached by teachers Christopher Gorski, Lisa Muise, Rebecca Murphree, Jeffrey West and parent volunteer Lynn McCormack.
The Club is also assisted by numerous high school students who were previously on the Olympiad Team. Each year students from the Galvin compete against schools from across Massachusetts in 23 events in life science, physical science, engineering and chemistry. The students design and build many items including bridges, rockets, towers and catapults and they also compete by taking tests and designing and performing laboratory experiments. The students work hard after school several times a week from September until March building and preparing for the competition. Last year there were over 50 students from grades 5 to 8 who competed on three separate teams at the state tournament at Assumption College in Worcester.
Last year, the Galvin Middle School’s Science Olympiad Team placed fifth in Massachusetts.
