WAKEFIELD — The third annual Gator Gallop to benefit the Greenwood School and the Wakefield Educational Foundation (WEF) takes place Saturday morning, April 9. The Gator Gallop consists of a 5K Road Race/Walk around Lake Quannapowitt and a Kids’ 1-Mile Fun Run open to children ages 10 and under. Online registration is open via GatorGallop.com.

Race day check-in and on-site registration begin at 8:15 a.m.

The 5K starts at 9:30 a.m. and will be chip-timed by RaceWire ($30 with a free shirt for those registered by March 21). Strollers are welcome. Awards will be given by gender and age bracket for the 5K. The top male and top female will win sneakers from New Balance.

The Kids’ 1-Mile Fun Run starts at 9 a.m. ($10) and is for children in grades K-4. A warm-up for the children will be led by a favorite retired P.E. teacher Joie Edson, beginning at approximately 8:30 a.m. Awards will be given by grade and gender.

DJ John Ross will provide family-friendly music and a variety of food will be provided by Whole Foods Market, Wagamama and other local shops. Free 5-minute massages will be provided by Denaro Chiropractic. A large selection of raffles will be available from local businesses, including Jeff’s Landscape, Defensive Edge and Kidcasso Art Studio. Toilet facilities will also be available on site.

The Gator Gallop has historically been a festive event, drawing all ages and all running abilities.

This race is made possible with the support of many generous sponsors, most notably the two event sponsors, Dr. Mickey & Associates and Future of Dentistry and the three major sponsors The Savings Bank, The Law Office of Tiziano Doto and Honey Dew Donuts.

Sponsor and registration proceeds will benefit the Greenwood School PTO and the WEF. The Greenwood School PTO funds classroom supplies, books for the school library and cultural and school community events. WEF provides a bridge to allow funding for hands-on learning that is unobtainable within the current school system budget.
