WAKEFIELD — The Geoffrey Walter Memorial Junior Tennis Tournament will take place the weekend of Aug. 29-30 at the Dobbins Courts at Wakefield Memorial High School. This is the 13th year of the event being held in Geoffrey’s name and the 25th year overall for the tournament.

Plans are underway to have three separate age brackets each for boys and girls: high school, 14 and under and 12 and under. The tournament is geared for both beginner and more advanced players and will include consolation matches to ensure plenty of play for all participants. Registration is $5 per player and includes a tournament T-shirt.

The junior tennis tournament, created in 1991 by Bill Conley and John Ludlow, this year celebrates 25 years. In honor of this milestone anniversary, all former players and families are invited to come by the courts on Sunday morning for recognition ceremonies of both founders as part of the tournament wrap-up.

Players may register or get more details by calling Rich or Jennifer Walter at 781-246-4294 or by e-mail at richjenwalter@gmail.com.

Fundraising in the form of donations, raffles, snacks and the sale of Head tennis equipment during the weekend will go toward the Geoffrey A. Walter Fund at The Scholarship Foundation of Wakefield.

In the spirit of Geoffrey Walter, the tourney committee invites all interested junior tennis players and families to participate and demonstrate their enthusiasm, skill and sportsmanship.
