MEDFORD — George Garcia Cayon, 87, passed away at the Aberjona Nursing Home in Winchester on Monday afternoon.
The son of the late Remijio and Rosalia (Feijoo) Cayon, he lived in Medford for most of his life, where he and his late beloved wife raised their family.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and retired chief of the Defense Orthopedic Footwear Clinic for the Department of Defense, George was active in civic affairs in the City of Medford. He was the past president of the Medford Lions Club, co-chairman of the Medford Bi-Centennial Committee, served as a Middlesex County Deputy Sheriff, member of the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Board of Corporators, member of the Tri-City Mental Health Board of Directors and many other civic and community organizations.
He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara (Bowman) Cayon. He was the dear father of Denise and David Patten of Dunbarton, N.H. and Christine Tringali of Wakefield. He was the loving grandfather of Lauren and Danielle Tringali of Wakefield. He was the brother of Rosalie Clarke of Balston Lake, N.Y. and the late Roy, Mario, James, Edward and Arthur Cayon, Mary Crosby and Angelina MacDonald. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Tuesday, July 7, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 4 to 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
