WAKEFIELD — George W. Ogar, 97, of Wakefield died Tuesday, Dec. 29, in Reading.
Mr. Ogar was born in Boston on Nov. 24, 1918 and raised in Dorchester. He was the beloved son of the late Walter J. and Elizabeth (Slaven) Ogar.
He was raised in Boston and was a graduate of Boston Latin High School, Class of 1936, and of the College of the Holy Cross in 1940. He later earned a master’s degree in History from Boston College and a master’s degree in Engineering from Harvard.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had been a Wakefield resident since 1962 and was retired from the Raytheon Corporation in 1991 after many years of service.
He is survived by his beloved wife Catherine (Lemmon) Ogar. He was the loving father of George W. Ogar Jr., Elizabeth M. Ogar and her husband Mark Jacobs, Catherine E. Ruiz, Peggy Kennedy and her late husband William P. Kennedy Jr., Patricia E. Beane and her husband Donald and Marie T. Brown and her husband Peter. He was the brother of the late Walter, Robert and Richard Ogar. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren and his one great-grandchild.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, on Wednesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave., Wakefield at 10. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Lynn. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
