Gillcrist-obit-webMELROSE — Geraldine T. “Gerry” (Lynch) Gillcrist, 87, passed away at the Golden Living Center Dexter House in Malden on January 19.

Mrs. Gillcrist was born in Melrose on April 8, 1927 to the late Cornelius and Amelia Frances (Mansfield) Lynch.

She was raised in Melrose and graduated from St. Mary’s Grammar and St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1945. Gerry was a lifelong resident of Melrose and worked as a seamstress for over 15 years at Moulton’s Curtain Factory on Corey Street in Melrose.

Mrs. Gillcrist loved to sing and dance, had a great sense of humor and enjoyed spending summers on White Horse Beach in Plymouth. Gerry was very close with all her sisters and adored her grandchildren.

Geraldine was the beloved wife of the late Robert N. Gillcrist. She was the loving mother of Robert A. Gillcrist and his wife Sheila of Woodsville, NH, Susan Gillcrist of Plymouth and William E. Gillcrist of Saugus. She was the devoted sister of Rita DeCoste of Melrose and the late Mary Mahoney, Eileen McCarthy, Flossie Smith and Ed Lynch. She was the sister-in-law of Celeste Lynch of Melrose. She was the cherished grandmother of Sam, Mary, Roberta, Tony, Christopher, James, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Emily and Hilary. She was the loving great grandmother of Daryll, Austin, Morgan, Alex, Chrissy, Bobby, Patrick, Allison, Thomas, Sam, Ruth and Aleiah.

Visiting hours took place on Thursday, January 22, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, followed by at funeral service on Friday, January 23, at 11 a.m. at Gately Funeral Home. Burial was in Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
