MELROSE — Marjorie A. (Ryan) Butler, 93, of Melrose, died at the Chelsea Soldier’s Home on Jan. 15.
Marjorie was born and raised in Malden, was a graduate of Cheverus School in Malden and went on to attend fashion design school. She served her country in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and worked as a secretary for the Dept. of Elder Affairs for many years before her retirement.
Marjorie resided in Melrose since 1951, was a member of the Melrose D.A.V. and life member and past commander of the Melrose American Legion Post # 90 and also of the Malden American Legion Post #69.
She loved to travel to Palma DeMallorca in Spain, Puerto Rico for 30 years, Las Vegas, Russia, Ireland and England. Marjorie enjoyed music events, playing bingo and was always very social.
She was the beloved wife of the late Donald F. Butler for 54 years. She was the loving mother of Barbara Vanaria and her husband Donald of Rhode Island, Cheryl Butler of Melrose and the late Michael Butler. She was the cherished grandmother of Kerry Butler of Melrose. She was the caring sister of Leo Ryan of New Hampshire, Helen Eggleston of Melrose, Virginia Ryan of Malden and the late Ann Chisholm, Sr. Mary Josita Ryan, SP, Regina Rauseo and Alberta Langley. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the St. Michael Chapel at the Chelsea Soldier’s Home, 91 Crest Ave., Chelsea at 11 a.m.
Burial at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
