One-time Woodville School teacher

Obit-Flynn-webWAKEFIELD — Gertrude C. “Trudy” Flynn, 82, of Wakefield and formerly of Arlington, died Thursday, Dec. 4 at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Born in Cambridge on Oct. 30, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Nora (Healy) O’Brien.

Trudy was a graduate of Belmont High School, Class of 1950. She then went on to graduate from the Salem Teachers School in 1955, after which she served as a teacher at the old Woodville School in Wakefield before raising her family. She was a member of both the Arlington Catholic Women’s Club and the Sodality at St. Camillus Parish in Arlington and served as a Eucharistic Minister.

Trudy was the beloved wife of 58 years Thomas F. Flynn. She was the loving mother of Mary Flynn Myers of West Roxbury, Noreen Flynn Weihe and her husband Edwin of Seattle, Wash., Thomas P. Flynn and his wife Deborah of Wakefield, John F. Flynn and his wife Lauren of Woburn, Julie Flynn Norton and her husband Mark of Melrose and Joseph D. Flynn and his wife Anabel of Wakefield. She was the sister of John F. O’Brien of Naples, Fla. and the late Ann Finigan, Mary Gallagher and Rev. James M. O’Brien MM and sister-in-law of Donald E. Flynn of Stoneham. She is also survived by her 16 adoring grandchildren: Tom, Kate, Max, Nick, Honor, Morgan, Jenn, Matt, Andrew, Mallory, Patrick, Taylor, Anna, Isabella, Michael and Alexa and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 o’clock. Visitation for relatives and friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3-8 p.m. Interment, St. Patrick Cemetery, Stoneham.
