Loving and caring person loved Boston sports

Gertrude-McManus-Obit-webNORTH READING — Gertrude S. (Dahlquist) McManus, 92, of North Reading and formerly of Reading, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015 at Winchester Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late James P. McManus.

Born in Reading on July 5, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Helga (Hansen) Dahlquist. She was raised and attended school in Reading and was a graduate of Reading High School.

Gertrude worked as a bartender for Bob White’s Princeton Lounge in Chelmsford for many years. She has been a resident of North Reading for the past 55 years.

She was a very generous and caring person who always enjoyed entertaining at her home. She was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed playing Bingo.

Family members include her loving sons, Dana McManus and his wife Sandra of Danvers and the late James P. “Rusty” McManus Jr.; her daughters, Cindy McManus and Daphne McManus, both of North Reading; her sister, Winifred Colburn of North Reading, the late Elizabeth Dahlquist and her late brother, Gunnar Dahlquist; 10 grandchildren, Damon, Bonnie and Guy McManus, Bobby, Heather and Michelle Barkhouse, Ricky and Alicia Ward, Rachel and Sarah McManus and three great–grandchildren.

Her funeral was held at the Union Congregational Church, 148 Haverhill St., North Reading on Tuesday, Dec. 29. Calling hours were held at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow St., North Reading. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington.
