NORTH READING — The Lady Hornets suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Triton Vikings in their home opener on September 8.

It was a defensive battle for most of the first half. Unfortunately, in the 35th minute the Vikings struck. Triton’s Morgan Snow broke in all alone and snuck the ball just past the outstretched arms of sophomore Katerina Hassapis to make it 1-0.

The North Reading offense continued to be shut down in the second half. The Hornets had a few chances late in the game but just couldn’t finish and they fell to their opponents 1-0.

Tie unbeaten Generals 0-0

The Hornets earned a tie against the undefeated Hamilton-Wenham Generals on Friday afternoon at Arthur J. Kenney Field.

Throughout the entire game Hassapis was strong in net and kept the Generals’ offense in check.

The midfield play of senior tri-captain Tori Brown, junior Jillian Comeau and junior Katie Welch continued to improve and created more chances for the team, but at the end of regulation, the game remained a scoreless tie. The tie earned North Reading its first team point of the young season.
