Mother of former schools’ superintendent

 

WAKEFIELD — Betty C. Troughton, 85, of Wakefield died on Sunday, September 14, at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading.

Born in Somerville on November 2, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Florence (Dixon) Chandler.

Mrs. Troughton was a graduate of Arlington High School, Class of 1945. She had been a Wakefield resident since 1961.

Mrs. Troughton was a retired bookkeeper for the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital and had also worked in the Accounts Receivable Department at Shawmut Bank in Wakefield Center. She was past president of the Wakefield Historical Society and a member of the Wakefield-Lynnfield United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Troughton is survived by her husband of 67 years, John F. Troughton; her son, David S. Troughton and his wife Judy of Chelmsford, and her two daughters Janice A. Morrissey and her husband Joseph of Ellicott City, Maryland and Marcia J. Hicks and her husband Chester of Bloomfield, Connecticut. She is also survived by her six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Mrs. Troughton was predeceased by her brother Robert Chandler of Billerica.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday at the Wakefield-Lynnfield United Methodist Church, 273 Vernon St., in Wakefield at 11 a.m.

Interment will be at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
