Warriors post 4-1 triumph in season opener

LYNNFIELD — Due to the conditions of the Dobbins Courts, the Warrior girls’ tennis team moved its season opening match against Woburn indoors to the Boston Sports Club.

However, playing indoors usually comes with time constraints since teams only have the courts for a limited amount of time.

Wakefield didn’t have to worry about that at all as it made quick work of the Tanners prevailing by a 4-1 decision

The Warriors won four of the five matches dropping only third singles. All five matches went in straight sets which helped the contest move along quicker as well.

At first singles, senior captain Meghan Chapman pulled out a hard fought 6-4, 6-1 victory over Beth Ryan.

Sarah Stumpf, a junior, cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Arianna Ramirez at second singles.

Wakefield dropped its lone point at third singles. Senior captain Abby Murphy lost a 3-6, 0-6 decision to Marissa Gattasu.

At first doubles, junior Grace Hurley and sophomore Abby Chapman prevailed against the Tanner first doubles team, 6-4, 6-1.

Juniors Mollybeth Whitson and Darcy Drago were teamed at second doubles and earned a 6-2, 6-0 triumph.

Wakefield will have a tougher challenge in its next match on Monday when it takes on Lexington at 3:30 p.m. at the Lexington High School Courts.
