WAKEFIELD — The Warrior girls’ tennis team had its full complement of varsity players back for its match against Burlington on Wednesday afternoon at the Dobbins Courts. However against the defending Middlesex League Freedom division champs, it didn’t make much of a difference as Wakefield fell by a 4-1 score to a talented Red Devil squad.

The Warriors dropped to 4-2 on the season.

The lone point for Wakefield came at first doubles where junior Grace Hurley and sophomore Abby Chapman battled Burlington’s first doubles team of Lauren Carlson and Ellie Yu in a three-set contest. Hurley and Chapman lost the first set, 1-6, but came back to take the second and third sets, 6-4, 6-3.

The rest of the matches went in Burlington’s favor.

At first singles, senior Meghan Chapman dropped a 5-7, 3-6 contest against Eleni Pesridis.

Sarah Stumpf, a junior, faced Anjali Seereeran at second singles. Stumpf lost 2-6, 4-6.

The third singles match didn’t go Wakefield’s way either. Abby Murphy, a junior, took on Meg Doherty and suffered a 1-6, 2-6 setback.

Juniors Mollybeth Whitson and Darcy Drago were teamed at second doubles and they took on the Red Devil duo of Tori Condon and Erica Vonstry. Whitson and Drago dropped a 4-6, 4-6 contest.

The Warriors return to the court this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. when they take on Arlington at the Dobbins Courts.
