Sting Manchester-Essex, 4–1

NORTH READING — North Reading defeated Manchester Essex 4–1. This is the first time that the Hornets have been able to get a solid win over the “other” Hornets from Manchester–Essex in quite some time.

Squeak Past Masco, 3-2

The Lady Hornets remain unbeaten after earning a hard fought 3–2 road victory over the Masconomet Chieftains on April 22. With the victory North Reading improved to 6–0 on the season.

At first singles, Sophomore Marissa Galuppo lost in straight sets 6–3, 6–2. Sophomore Aly Budny won fairly easily at second singles in straight sets 6–2, 6–4. Freshman Tia Campagna continues to impress with her straight set victory at third singles 7–5, 6–1.

Senior captains Kaylin Scher and Meg Carlo lost a hard fought three set affair at first doubles. After both doubles pairs split the first two sets the third set was forced into tiebreak. Masco took the tiebreak and won the match 6–3, 4–6, 7–6 (12–10). Second doubles was the deciding match. Senior Captain Jenny Crotty and freshman Meghan Griffin won easily in two sets 6–1, 6–4.

Crush Cougars 5-0

The Hornets improved to 7–0 with their 5–0 sweep of the Austin Prep Cougars on Friday afternoon.

At first singles Marissa Galuppo got back on track with her straight set 6–4, 6–2 victory. At second singles Aly Budny easily won the first set 6–0 but had to eke out the second set 7–5. Tia Campagna continued the incredible unbeaten start to her varsity career with her victory at third singles 6–1, 6–3.

Both doubles matches were very competitive but both teams pulled out nice wins. At first doubles Meg Carlo and Kaylin Scher lost the first set 4–6 but won the final two sets easily 6–2, 6–1. Jenny Crotty and Meghan Griffin won at second doubles in three sets 6–4, 5–7, 6–3.
