SWAMPSCOTT — The Lynnfield-North Reading co-operative wrestling team continued its strong start to the 2015-2016 season last week.

The Black and Gold (6-2-1) began last week competing against Wakefield, Marblehead-Swampscott, Saugus and Malden Catholic in a super quad meet on Dec. 22.

The grapplers narrowly fell 42-39 to Wakefield. The Black and Gold had a 39-0 lead after winning the first seven weight classes, but the co-op team lost the next seven matches.

Freshman Dylan Reardon (106 lbs.) pinned his opponent in 3:45. Junior Joe Reardon (120 lbs.) defeated a returning sectional place finisher by fall in 3:39. Senior Kai Jean-Simon (126 lbs.) pinned his opponent in 2:50. Senior captain Max Whyman (132 lbs.) defeated his counterpart by fall in 35 seconds.

Junior Adam Rossetti (138 lbs.) defeated his opponent by a 6-2 decision. Senior captain Michael Reardon (145 lbs.) pinned his counterpart in 1:59. Senior Devin Leggett (152 lbs.) defeated his opponent by fall in 3:09.

“Tough loss,” said Black and Gold head coach Craig Stone.

Defeats Marblehead-Swampscott

The Black and Gold defeated Marblehead–Swampscott 54-14. The grapplers won nine out of 11 weight classes and forfeited the other three weight classes.

Dylan Reardon pinned his opponent in 4:42. Joe Reardon won his match by forfeit. Jean-Simon pinned his opponent in 4:19. Whyman defeated his opponent by fall in 1:08. Michael Reardon won his match by forfeit.

Leggett defeated his opponent by fall in 15 seconds. Senior Anthony Wilkinson (160 lbs.) pinned his opponent in 3:33. Junior Joe Gonthier (170 lbs.) earned his first varsity win after pinning his opponent in 1:51. Junior Tim Goucher (220 lbs.) defeated his opponent by fall in 1:21.

Ties Saugus

The Black and Gold tied Saugus 42-42 during the super quad meet. The grapplers had a 42-40 advantage on the mat but the Sachems were able to tie the match because the locals were unable to fill two weight classes.

Joe Reardon defeated a returning state place finisher after pinning the opponent in 1:47. Jean-Simon defeated his opponent by fall in 3:54. Whyman pinned his opponent in 2:34. Sophomore Andrew DiPietro defeated his opponent by fall in 1:05.

Michael Reardon defeated his opponent by fall in 2:58. Junior Connor Stead (152 lbs.) won his match by forfeit. Leggett pinned his opponent in 1:01.

Crushes Lancers

The Black and Gold dismantled Malden Catholic 47-18. The grapplers led the match from start to finish.

Dylan Reardon won his match by a 20-5 technical fall. Joe Reardon pinned his opponent in 1:46. Jean-Simon defeated his counterpart by fall 3:03. Whyman pinned his opponent in 41 seconds. Rossetti defeated his counterpart by an 11-8 decision.

Michael Reardon defeated his opponent by a 15-13 decision. Leggett pinned his opponent in 47 seconds. Wilkinson defeated his opponent by fall in 1:36. Sophomore Kevin Farrelly (195 lbs.) won his match by forfeit. Goucher won his match by forfeit.

Defeats Essex Tech

The Black and Gold defeated Essex Tech 58-22 on Dec. 23.

Dylan Reardon won his match by forfeit. Chris Reardon pinned his opponent in 57 seconds. Jean-Simon defeated his opponent by fall in 1:05. Whyman pinned his counterpart in 1:17. Michael Reardon defeated his opponent by a 10-2 decision.

Leggett (152 lbs.) defeated his opponent by fall in 1:04. Senior captain Zack Monzione pinned his opponent in 54 seconds. Wilkinson (170 lbs.) defeated his opponent by fall in 1:11. Farrelly, a first year wrestler, earned his first varsity win after pinning his opponent in 1:11. Goucher pinned his opponent in 37 seconds.

Upcoming meets

The Black and Gold competed in the Pentucket Holiday Tournament on Monday, Dec. 28, taking place after deadline. The grapplers will compete in a quad meet against Masconomet, Beverly and Bellingham-Medway on Thursday, Dec. 31, beginning at 10 a.m. at North Reading High School.
