NORTH READING — Eat, drink and be scary at the 21st Annual Martins Pond Children’s Haunted Playground on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 5:30–9 p.m. It is a kid friendly event and is not too scary for young children. Bring your appetite – there will be clam chowder, Horseshoe Grille pulled pork, vegetarian chili, hot dogs, pizza, cotton candy baked goods and other goodies.

The festivities begin at 5:30 when food, the prize-every-time games and Madam Kaye’s fortune telling open. Search for scavenger hunt items hidden throughout the park. A costume parade will be held for children in costume on the basketball court at 6 p.m. Guided haunted tours start at 6:30. Tours run in ticket purchase order so buy your tickets early. Tickets are only $5. Kids under 3 are free. Henry the Juggler will perform shows at 6:45 and 7:45 p.m.

Catch a free shuttle from the Stop & Shop Plaza on Route 28 in North Reading. There is plenty of free parking.

Please support the local businesses that are helping use to make this fun event possible – Renaissance Realtors, Edward Jones, The Savings Bank, Chipman Handyman Services, Stork Ready/Crafty Time 4 Tots, The Cutting Room, Kitty’s, Horseshoe Grille, North Reading Transportation, 7–Eleven, Payne’s Truck and Auto & Repair, Quality Pavement Markings, Collins Overhead Door, Stop & Shop, Tedeschi’s and The Hallahan family.

All proceeds benefit continuing restoration and improvements at Clarke Park. Community service hours are available on Oct. 17 and 18. To volunteer, call Janet at 978–500–3161. Rain date is Oct. 24. Visit the Martins Pond Association on Facebook and at www.martinspond.org.
