reid-obit-webSTONEHAM — Hazel M. (Tonnessen) Reid, formerly of Melrose, passed away suddenly on July 28.
She was born in Dorchester on May 19, 1955, the loving daughter of the lane Arne and Marilyn (Mainey) Tonnessen.
Hazel was raised in Melrose and attended St. Mary’s Grammar School and graduated from Melrose High in 1973.
She worked for over 15 years at the Hilltop Steak House where she helped many others get positions there. Many friendships were made at the Hilltop.
Hazel also did medical billing for several different doctors.
When her children were younger, vacations were spent in Narragansett, RI, where her parents and siblings also spent vacation time. Many happy times were spent there and will always be cherished.
Hazel was an avid reader and loved to dance, especially to John Mellencamp. Her friends were always there for her.
Hazel was a loving mother of Kenneth Reid and his wife Rachel, and the late Kallie Scott. She is also survived by her sister Helen Chisholm and her husband Robert of Melrose, James Tonnessen and his wife Maria of Virginia, Arne Tonnessen and his late wife Margie of New Hampshire, Paul Tonnessen and his husband Richard Carr of Hawaii, David Tonnessen and his wife of Diana, also of New Hampshire, Kristin Mayo and her husband Kelley of Texas and John Tonnessen and his wife Monique of Medford.
She also was the loving aunt of many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at the Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose on Saturday, September 26, at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Hazel to Big Brother and Big Sister.
