Helen-Melcher-obit-webMELROSE — Helen Theresa (Quinn) Melcher, 87 passed away on January 1, 2017.

She was born in Somerville on April 28, 1929 to the late Edmond and Julia (Carey) Quinn. Helen was raised in Medford and graduated from Medford High School, Class of 1945. She lived in Medford most of her life, over 20 years on Cape Cod and the last four years in Melrose. Mrs. Melcher started out working for the Registry of Motor Vehicles for the State of Massachusetts and then in telecommunications at Wrentham State Penitentiary. She also worked for the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and then at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford for many years. She retired at the age of 70. Helen loved the ocean and the beaches of Cape Cod. She enjoyed being busy with work and family and truly enjoyed traveling around to visit her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Melcher was the loving mother of Cynthia Antonangeli and her husband Mark; Timothy Melcher; Judy Carbone and Stephanie Melcher. She was the proud grandmother of Jenna, Erica, Tim Jr., Stephen, Mallory, Lisa, Lauren and Timothy. She is also survived by five great grandchildren.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St. Melrose on Wednesday, January 4. A Mass of Christian Burial at took place at St. Mary’s Church, Herbert Street, Melrose, on Thursday, January 5. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery was private.
