NORTH READING — With 2014 soon to be in the rear view mirror, the North Reading Transcript is looking ahead in anticipation of the first baby to be born to a North Reading family in 2015.
Yes, it is time once again for the newspaper’s First Baby contest, now entering its ninth year. The Transcript and many other local businesses will shower the first baby born in the new year to a family residing in North Reading with a variety of generous gifts.
Acceptance of the winning entry is contingent upon the mother’s and father’s consent to have a photograph published of their baby and themselves to accompany a story published in the Transcript
This year’s entry deadline is Friday, January 9 at noon. Entries must include documentation such as the name of the hospital or place where the baby was born, and the time and date of the baby’s birth.
If a baby is not born by the deadline, the contest will be extended and a new deadline will be announced by the Transcript until a winner is determined.

The winning family must reside in North Reading. The decision of the newspaper is final. Relatives of newspaper employees or contest sponsors are ineligible.
Participating Businesses
Local businesses have generously donated several hundred dollars worth of prizes to welcome baby and pamper mom. A full–page ad, including contest rules, is printed in today’s edition of the Transcript.
The local businesses donating prizes are: Abbott Shoe – $25 gift certificate; A Touch of Class Salon – free haircut and blow dry for mom and dad; Advanced Touch Massage Therapy – free half–hour massage for mom; Walmart, North Reading – one car seat for baby; The Savings Bank, North Reading branch – $25 savings account for baby.
Also, Horseshoe Grille – $25 gift certificate; Kitty’s Restaurant – $25 gift certificate; The Farm Land, Wakefield – $50 gift certificate; Honey Dew Donuts, downtown Wakefield — free box of donuts for new mom; Hilltop Nursery School – complimentary registration certificate, $75 value; and North Reading Transcript – one year gift subscription or extension of subscription for the parents.
