Accomplished trumpet player for several big bands

WAKEFIELD — Henry Gregorio, 86, a lifelong Wakefield resident, died on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at the Winchester Hospital.

Born in Wakefield on June 5, 1934, he was the son of the late Angelo and Marie (DeGenarro) Gregorio of Avellino, Italy.

Mr. Gregorio was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1952, and Wentworth Institute, Class of 1956. He was a retired cost estimator for A.M. Gregorio & Sons, Inc. in Wakefield. An accomplished trumpet player for several big bands, Henry was a member of the Musicians Union. He always spoke of the dream of hitting the road as a musician. One of his favorite stories to tell was when the band he was playing with opened for Louis Armstrong. The great jazz trumpet player told Henry he “wished he had his chops!”

Mr. Gregorio is survived by his wife Janet R. (Zaccone) Gregorio, his son Paul Gregorio of Wakefield, his daughter Renée Gregorio of New Mexico and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his five brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be private. Arrangements are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home in Wakefield.
