After press time: Lynnfield defeats Ipswich 5-0 (April 10)

LYNNFIELD — Due to the inclement weather that included rain and snow last week, the first two matches for the Lynnfield High boys’ team were postponed.

The Pioneers weer slated to open the 2024 campaign at home against St. John’s Prep at home on Apr. 4th. The next day, also at home, they were supposed to play another non-league match against Swampscott.

Both matches do have make-up dates as the St. John’s Prep match will be made up on May 16 while the Swampscott match will be made up on May 20. Both matches will start at 3:30 p.m..

“The kids are anxious to start the season,” said Pioneers head coach Joe Dunn. “They are tired of just playing against each other at this point and want to start the year.”

The team had four straight days with no practice as they did practice before the rain started on May 3 and did not have an official team practice until May 8.

“Some of the kids did practice on their own over the weekend,” pointed out Dunn.

The new season opener will now be on Wednesday as they will visit Ipswich, which will also be their Cape Ann League opener as they shoot for their sixth straight Cape Ann League Kinney Division title.

The Pioneers are then slated to host Beverly on April 12 in a non-league match.

Both of those matches are scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.

Next week, the team will have the week off during school vacation but that could change if any of this week’s matches are postponed.

“We will look to make up any matches if they get postponed this week for next week,” said Dunn.
