WAKEFIELD — An Evans Place resident who rented out his house via Airbnb for the weekend of Dec. 9 to 11 told police that when he returned on Sunday he found his home trashed and a number of items had been stolen.

The homeowner said neighbors told him that a large house party had taken place at the home over the weekend. The man said that he returned home to find evidence of marijuana use and beer bottles strewn everywhere. A bannister had been pulled off a staircase and a hole had been punched in a ceiling, the resident said. In addition, a pair of $500 suits were reportedly stolen from a closet and a set of BEATS headphones were also stolen.

The homeowner said that he had an email address for the renter but that the phone number that he was given had been disconnected. The resident will contact Airbnb. Police have forwarded the address to the Building Inspector to determine if short-term rentals are allowed.

At about 8 a.m. on Saturday, the owner of an auto body shop on Railroad Avenue reported that a chain had been cut and a fenced-in area behind the shop where customers’ cars are parked had been entered and 24 tire rims had been stolen. The rims had been set aside because they were damaged and were believed to be worth about $260. There are no suspects at this time.

A minor two-car crash at Salem and Pleasant streets at about 11:30 a.m. on Friday resulted in no injuries but both drivers were cited for violations. Police said that a 2012 Ford Explorer driven by a 27-year-old Billerica woman was traveling north on Pleasant Street. A 2015 Toyota RAV4 driven by a 31-year-old Malden resident was heading east on Salem Street and entered the intersection at the same time as the Explorer emerged from the “Stop” sign on Pleasant Street. The Explorer driver was cited for failure to yield. The Toyota driver was cited for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. The Fire Department also responded. There were no injuries reported.

Police took a report of a stolen vehicle from  a Main Street resident at about 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The owner said that the vehicle had been stolen between Dec. 6 and 7. However, Wakefield PD learned that on Dec. 6 Saugus Police had responded to a crash involving that car in which the driver fled the scene. Police are investigating.

At about 10:15 p.m. on Friday, a Keeling Road resident reported that youths had stolen Christmas decorations from the homeowner’s front yard.

Police responded to a report of vandalism at about 11 a.m. on Saturday in which a Middleton man said that all four tires on his 2012 Toyota pickup truck had been flattened while the truck was parked on Chestnut Street. One of the tires reportedly had a visible puncture.

Police, Fire and Action Ambulance were dispatched to the area of 159 Broadway for a two-car crash at about 11:15 a.m. Saturday. Police said that a 1999 Ford Ranger driven by a 30-year-old Watertown man had slowed to take a left turn into a driveway when a 2011 Jeep driven by a 42-year-old Derry, N.H. resident hit the Ford Ranger from behind. The driver of the Ford Ranger was cited for unlicensed operation. The Jeep driver was not cited. There were no injuries.

Public safety crews were sent to Main and Church streets for a two car crash at about 4:30 on Saturday. Police said that a 2007 Infiniti driven by an 81-year-old North Reading woman and a 2016 Honda Accord driven by a 72-year-old Middleboro man entered the intersection simultaneously resulting in the crash. Both drivers claimed to have had the green light, police said. There were no injuries.

An internet scam was reported at about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday by a 20-year-old Bartley Street woman who told police that she became Facebook friends with a man who said that if she sent him $100, he would give her $1,000. She sent the money to an individual in Jamaica. She subsequently was asked to send $400, $150 and $120 to three different individuals in Jamaica. In all, she sent $770 to Jamaica. She has yet to receive the promised $1,000.

At about 6:15 p.m., an Overlook Road resident said that he was removing some wall boards from his garage and found what appeared to be a human knee bone on some shelving behind the wall. Police said that the bone was clean and may have been from an anatomy class. Police are investigating.

Police will summons a 45-year-old Malden woman for driving an unregistered and uninsured car after Officer Matthew Powers conducted a random registry check on a vehicle traveling on Salem Street at about 9:15 p.m. Saturday. When Off. Powers stopped the vehicle the woman said that she was aware that her insurance had been cancelled.

A caller reported a hit and run driver had struck a parked car on Crystal Street at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday. The 2010 Nissan Altima sustained moderate damage.

At about 2:30 a.m. on Sunday an Elm Street resident reported hearing a loud bang, and when he looked outside he observed a car turning around in a neighbor’s driveway and then leaving the area. He went outside and observed damage to his mother’s Mercedes. Police are investigating.

At about 6:30 p.m., a 17-year-old reported fraud involving Facebook and an iTunes account.

At about 8:30 p.m. a witness reported a possible drug transaction in the parking lot of 7Eleven. When police stopped the car, it was occupied by a man and a woman. They also found cell phones and and empty baggies as well as $200 in cash. The man admitted to being a marijuana dealer but said that he had no more drugs on him or in the vehicle. The pair were sent on their way.

The Fire Department responded to 36 calls over the weekend, 18 of which were for medical aid.

Among the non-medical calls were an outdoor fire on Church Street, a car fire on Route 128, a gas spill on Salem Street, a fire in a ceiling fan and a number of accidental alarms and malfunctioning fire alarm systems.
