NORTH READING — This weekend, five members of the North Reading Boys Spring Track team will be competing at the New Balance National Track Championships in Greensboro, NC. The first competitor is 2016 graduate David Smith, who will be throwing the Javelin on Friday June 17. His best throw of 162′ 3″ is third all time in NRHS history. He is looking to improve on that before he takes his talents to Colby College in the Fall where he will be joining their football program.

The Sprint Medley Relay team (100m–100m–200m–400m for a total of 800 meters) of Jackson Hastings, Matt McCarthy, Nick Copelas and Tom Helms will be competing in the championship section of the event on Sunday morning, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. Their qualifying race took place at the Andover Boosters meet in May where they ran 1:37.56.

For 2016 graduates Hastings and Copelas, this will be their last race with their NRHS teammates and they look to enjoy the experience before Hastings heads to UNH and Copelas will be attending Merrimack College where he plans on continuing competing in track. McCarthy and Helms are rising seniors and are looking to this experience as a great stepping stone into their final year as Hornets.
