NORTH READING — It has been a rough start for the North Reading High volleyball team out of the gate as they lost their first three games of the season. On Monday, the Hornets lost, 3–0, at Hamilton–Wenham.

“This is the best match we have played so far,” said Hornets sixth–year head coach Mike Milone. “We fought the entire way.”

The Generals won the first game, 25–21, and game two, 25–14. The then won the final match, 25–21.

Two juniors for the Hornets played well as Taylor Moore had 12 kills and a pair of blocks. Jenna Forcellese led the team in digs with 14.

In the home opener last Friday afternoon, the Hornets fell, 3–0, to rival Lynnfield.

“They didn’t make mistakes and we made too many against a top team in our league,” admitted Milone, as his squad was overmatched.

The Pioneers won the first game, 25–8. They then won the second one and third one by matching, 25–14, scores.

Forcellese had eight digs.

On Sept. 7, the Hornets opened the season losing, 3–0, at Masconomet. The Chieftains won, 25–17, 25–14, and 25–18.

“Our inexperience showed and we looked slow-footed,” recalled Milone.

Senior captain Nicole Shedd, had five service aces, seven kills and one block while Forcellese had 12 digs.

On Thursday, the Hornets visit Burlington at 5:30 pm in a non–league match. North Reading then returns to Cape Ann League action next Monday as they visit Triton at 5:30 p.m.

The Georgetown–Amesbury co-op team then visits next Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
