DANVERS — Maddie Wescott was the lone member of the Danvers-North Reading co-op gymnastics team to be named to the Northeastern Conference-Cape Ann League All-Star team this season. The freshman All-Around led the team in points and also competed in the MIAA State Individuals last month at Tewksbury High.

In the regular season, the Falcons finished 4-4 overall and 3-4 in the Northeastern Conference-Cape Ann League. However, two of those losses came to the eventual state champions, Masconomet.

“We had a good season,” stated Falcons head coach Jen Habeeb, who just completed her seventh year at the helm. “It was difficult getting everyone healthy at the same time but a lot of the girls stepped up and filled those gaps. The team worked hard this year and supported each other and I’m happy with how they competed each meet.”

The team will lose five seniors to graduation: Allie Taylor, Lexi Hnatowicz, Emily Tobin, Kaitlin Lennox, and manager Haley LaChance. Taylor, Hnatowicz and Tobin were this year’s tri-captains.

Taylor is one of the Falcons from North Reading. The other two were freshmen Hayden MacLellan and Lindsey Rosenthal.

“Allie was a key player for us over the last four years,” said Habeeb. “She competed all four events for us and her scores always contributed to the team score. Over her four years, she competed in the state individual competition and earned NEC/CAL All Star awards. She always brought a light-hearted energy to the team and always came to practice with a smile on her face.

“Hayden and Lindsay were good additions to our team this year and we are looking forward to see what they accomplish over the next three years.”

The Falcons are slated to return seven veterans next winter.

“We are hopeful to have a competitive season next year,” said Habeeb.
