LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield-North Reading co-operative wrestling team recently held its end of the season banquet.

“Lynnfield-North Reading, in the 17th year of the co-op, did not compete last season due to the pandemic,” said Black and Gold head coach Craig Stone. “This season, although their roster was small with only one returning wrestler from 2020, the energy, effort and enthusiasm was high. With all of the wrestlers returning next season, there is a lot of optimism about 2023.”

Stone recalled that four wrestlers placed at the Cohasset Tournament, five placed at the Cape Ann League/Northeastern Conference Tournament and one placed at the Division 2 North Sectional Tournament.

Freshman Isaac Medford was presented with the Iron Man Award during the banquet. He finished sixth during the Division 2 Sectional Tournament.

Freshman James Fodera was presented with the John O’Donnell Team Spirit Award, Most Dual Meet Wins Award, Most Pins Award, Most Points Award, the Fastest Fall Award and the 70 Point Club Award. Fodera finished third in the Cohasset Tournament and was sixth in the CAL/NEC Tournament.

Stone also presented varsity letters during the banquet. Eighth-graders Ben Schumacher and David Glynn were given varsity letters. Schumacher finished sixth in the Cohasset Tournament, was sixth in the CAL/NEC Tournament and finished third in the Division 3 North Sectional Tournament.

Glynn finished sixth in the Cohasset Tournament and was sixth in the CAL/NEC Tournament.

In addition to Medford and Fodera, freshman Cameron Arya also received a varsity letter. Sophomore Gavin Iby was given a varsity letter after he finished second in the Cohasset Tournament and was third in the CAL/NEC Tournament.

The juniors who received varsity letters were Ethan Downey and David Poirier. Poirier finished sixth in the CAL/NEC Tournament.
