LYNNFIELD — A sunny but brisk morning greeted over 300 Lynnfield Rotary Turkey Trot runners and Kids Fun runners recently as the annual 5K Thanksgiving Day Road Race was held.

This year, the Julie Routhier Foundation and the Lynnfield Moms Group teamed up once again to co-sponsor the event with Lynnfield Rotary, which saw an impressive turnout.

Support for the race, which included members from the community, friends and family, helped support the Lynnfield Rotary and Julie Routhier Foundation’s charitable efforts.  For the second year, Lynnfield Rotary was able to add a third scholarship for The Julie Routhier Foundation for a deserving Lynnfield High School senior who is committed to enter the teaching profession. The scholarship is named for Julie Routhier, a young mother who lost her life to cancer. Julie was dedicated to enriching her children’s education and valued the educators who shaped their growth. Her spirit of support and gratitude now drives the foundation’s mission and honors her legacy.

Dressed in full Turkey attire, Lynnfield Rotary Co-President Christine Travers, chairperson of the event, opened the ceremonies with words of appreciation for the 5K’s participants, the Julie Routhier Foundation, the Lynnfield Moms Group and committee members, including the LHS Rotary Interact Club who facilitated the registration process this year. She concluded her remarks by thanking the community for supporting the work undertaken by the three nonprofit organizations.

After the Whitney Houston rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” was played, Bob Priestley from Boston Audio Visual announced the countdown and Travers sent the road racers off. After the 5K road race ended, the Kids’ Run followed, which took place around the Town Common.
